    XL Vets Ireland represents 26 independently owned veterinary practices – encompassing over 150 veterinarians, a further 200 support team members, serving 17% of the Irish market for veterinary products and services. Since our inception in 2010 , XLVets has become the leading business network for veterinary practices in Ireland.     We are seeking to recruit an experienced leader to join our organisation as General Manager. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will play a key role in the development of XLVets’ strategy and vision for greater success. Working with a small executive team in Cappamore, Co. Limerick, the role involves leading and coordinating all strategic and business aspects of XLVets business.

    To thrive as General Manager at XLVets you must be both a prudent manager and an effective leader and coach. The ideal candidate will have a business mindset and will be able to see the “big picture” in a variety of settings. They will be pro-active in managing the flow of opportunities available to XLVet member practices prioritise the development of individual members so that they can benefit from the opportunities available to them.

    Your principal accountabilities will be: 

    • Oversee all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission.
    • Provide effective leadership to the XLVets executive team and clear and impactful communication to the XLVets Board, XLVets shareholders, VetInsights Steering Group, Farm Animal and Companion Animal Committees.
    • Maintain a strong understanding of the veterinary, farming and animal health sectors and relevant emerging trends.
    • Cultivate a culture that promotes high performance and positive morale.
    • Work closely with the Board of Directors acting as a spokesperson for XLVets.
    • Support commercial planning and development; communicating new business development opportunities and presenting these to the Board of Directors.
    • Conduct cost / benefit analyses, creating business cases, strategically frame challenges and opportunities.
    • Build and manage relationships with existing and potential future partners.
    • Lead the execution of the branding and marketing strategy at XLVets and through the member network.
    • In conjunction with the Treasurer, oversee XLVets fiscal activity, including budgeting, reporting and auditing.
    • Ensure adherence to legal guidelines and internal policies to maintain the organisation’s ethical standards and commitment to transparency.
    • Scope and determine project requirements of a project , and communicate them clearly to stakeholders (within and outside XLVets) and where needed lead projects to completion.
    • Benchmark the performance of XLVets members against agreed metrics.

    Capabilities required for this role include:

    You will need: 

    • At least 8+ years’ experience working as a senior manager or leader.
    • An advanced qualification in business or similar relevant field and at least 8 years senior management experience within the agribusiness or related sectors.
    • A strong understanding of the veterinary, farming and animal health sectors is highly desirable.
    • A background in commercial planning and development and/or marketing in the animal health/agricultural sector will be a strong advantage.
    • Experience in developing, planning and implementing successful strategies.
    • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and performance management principles.
    • Familiarity with various business functions such as finance, marketing, public relations, sales, HR etc.
    • Proven ability to develop strong relationships with business owners and have a strong interest in enterprise development.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and public speaking skills.
    • Outstanding organisational and time management skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
