XLVets Skillnet Lameness farmer workshop this August

    XLVets Skillnet are scheduleding two Farmskills Lameness Workshops with New Zealand expert, Neil Chesterton this August. The day will include a blend of theory and practical to make for a fast-moving and interesting day.

    The first takes place in Bandon, Cork - Monday 7th August - 10:30am - 3:30pm
    The second event takes place in Kilmacthomas, Waterford - Tuesday 8th August - 10:30am - 3:30pm

    The fee to attend is €50, (refreshments and lunch included), this can be paid by bank transfer or cheque (Made payable to XLVets Skillnet.


    1. Understanding lameness - the main lameness conditions
    2. The causes of each lesion
    3. Treatment of each lesion
    4.  The importance of reducing pressures on the foot
    5.  Prevention of foot injury. The importance of understanding cow behaviour and low stress handling.

    Practical farm session:

    1.  Design of walkways to improve cow-flow and reduce foot damage
    2.  Design of milking parlours to improve cow-flow and reduce foot damage
